Procedure
Complete the following steps to install BlackBerry Manager remotely:
- Make sure that one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems is being used on the computer where BlackBerry Manager is to be installed:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (Professional, Server or Advanced server edition)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or later
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (Professional, Server or Advanced server edition)
- Verify that the operating system is installed in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.
- Install Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 4.0 Service Pack 2 or later. Note: This program can be installed during the BlackBerry Manager installation.
- Install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 or later. Note: This program can be installed during the BlackBerry Manager installation.
- Install one of the following:
- Microsoft Exchange Version 5.5 Administrator
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager
- Microsoft Exchange 2003 System Manager
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 (Corporate or Workgroup installation)
- Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) (Corporate or Workgroup installation)
- Microsoft Outlook 2003 (Corporate or Workgroup installation)
- Microsoft Exchange Version 5.5 Administrator
- Enable Named Pipes and TCP/IP network protocols for the remote Microsoft® SQL Server™ or Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE). For more information, see article KB04147. Note: Running BlackBerry Manager over a virtual private network (VPN) may cause issues due to limitations for the Named Pipes protocol.
- For BlackBerry Enterprise Server sofware version 4.0 or earlier, assign Microsoft Exchange permission for the account which will be used to run the BlackBerry Manager. See KB05035 for more information.
- Assign the administrative role for the account which will be used to run BlackBerry Manager.
- Open BlackBerry Manager as a BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrative account.
- Click on the BlackBerry Domain and go to the Role Administration tab.
- Select the role you would like to assign the account to.
- If this account is already set up as the Microsoft SQL Server login account, click on the List Administrators option and select the check mark next to it.
- If this account is not already set up as the Microsoft SQL server login account, and would like to create one, click the Add Administrators option and type the account name. Enter a password on the next screen. Note: Microsoft SQL Server authentication will need to be used for this account.
For more information about Role Based Administration, see KB04889. - Enable printer and file sharing in Windows in order to activate the BlackBerry smartphones. Note: To enable printer and file sharing in Windows, please search for this information at the Microsoft home page.
- Install BlackBerry Manager.
- Log in to the account which will be used to run BlackBerry Manager.
- Run setup.exe from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation package.
- Select BlackBerry Manager on the setup type screen.
- Follow the instructions.
- When prompted to create a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile, specify the user mailbox name for the account which is being used to run the BlackBerry Manager.

- Log in to the account which will be used to run BlackBerry Manager.
Database specified has a version that is not supported by this BlackBerry Manager error

Problem
When attempting to install and configure BlackBerry Manager on a remote computer, the following error message is displayed:
Database specified has a version that is not supported by this BlackBerry Manager, Please upgrade BlackBerry Enterprise Server first then run the upgrade again
The serverdbversion table displays the version information for the BlackBerry Configuration Database, such as 4.1.2.
Cause
The software version of BlackBerry Manager that is being installed is older than the version of the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
Resolution
Install the same software version of BlackBerry Manager as reported in the serverdbversion table of the BlackBerry Configuration Database (such as 4.1.2) or later
